Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Gigafriend (“Gigafriend,” “we,” “us”) runs a marketplace where people (“Hosts”) book local members (“Friends”) for platonic company, activities and help. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Gigafriend apps and website at gigafriend.app (the “Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
- Date of birth — used only to confirm you are 18 or older. It is never shown to other members.
- Profile — your photo, bio, interests and, for Friends, your headline, rates, gig types, hours and optional intro video. This is visible to other signed-in members.
- Personality quiz answers — stored as five trait scores and used only for matching. They are never shown to other members.
- Bookings and messages — gig details you enter (time, meeting place, notes) and messages you send in the app. Before a gig is confirmed, phone numbers, email addresses and social handles in messages are automatically hidden.
- Ratings, reviews and reports — the ratings and comments you leave, and any reports you file with our Trust & Safety team.
- Verification — when identity verification and background checks are enabled, these are performed by our providers (see below). We receive the result (for example, “verified”), not copies of your documents.
Location
- Your city — during sign-up we use your device location once to place you in a launch city or on our waitlist. We don’t store that location; for the waitlist we keep only an approximate area (rounded to roughly 10 km) and city name.
- Friends’ base location — Friends save a base location so Hosts can find them nearby. It is never shown to anyone; Hosts only see an approximate distance.
- Searching and booking — when you search, your device location is used to find nearby Friends and is not stored. Meeting places you choose for a gig are saved with that gig.
- Live location during a gig — while a gig is under way (“on the way,” “arrived” or “in progress”), the participants’ locations may be shared with each other to show arrival times. Live locations are deleted when the gig ends or is cancelled.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting providers log technical information such as IP address, device and browser type, and request times to keep the Service secure and working. We don’t use advertising trackers and we don’t sell your information.
How we use information
- To create and run your account, match Hosts with Friends, and handle bookings.
- To keep members safe: verifying age and identity, enforcing our rules, reviewing reports, and preventing fraud and abuse.
- To process payments and payouts once payments are enabled.
- To send service messages such as booking updates, safety notices and account emails.
- To understand demand (for example, which cities to launch next) and improve the Service.
- To comply with the law and respond to valid legal requests.
What other members see
Other signed-in members can see your name, photo, bio, interests, ratings, verification badges and, for Friends, your listing, rates, hours and intro video. Members you have a gig with see the gig details. Your email, phone number, date of birth, quiz scores and exact locations are not shown to other members.
Service providers
We share information with companies that run parts of the Service for us, only as needed for them to do that work:
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
- Google — optional sign-in with Google.
- DigitalOcean and Cloudflare — website hosting, security and delivery.
- Stripe — payments, Friend payouts and identity verification (when enabled).
- Checkr — background checks for certain Friend gig types (when enabled), with your consent.
- Mailgun and Expo — email and push notification delivery.
We may also share information if required by law, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy will continue to apply).
Retention
We keep your information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your profile and personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep certain records — such as gig history, payments, reports and safety records — to resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or meet legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
- You can update your profile, photo, bio and listing at any time in the app.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing [email protected].
- You can turn off location permission in your device settings; some features (such as finding nearby Friends) won’t work without it.
- Depending on where you live (including Texas and California), you may have additional rights under state privacy laws. We honor those requests and will not discriminate against you for making them.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and database-level security rules that limit each member to their own private data. No service is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access.
Age requirement
Gigafriend is only for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete accounts we learn belong to minors.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
